Putin is ‘not buying on the Costa’

The Euro Weekly News has reported that Vladimir Putin, the Russian prime minister, is not looking at property on the Costa del Sol.

The paper reported that the prime ministers press office had “laughed off” the reports that Mr Putin was looking into purchasing a property in the exclusive development of La Zagaleta, in Benahavis.

Spanish gossip website Vanitalis reported earlier this week that the former mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov, who lives in the urbanisation, had convinced the prime minister to purchase a property in the development he called “my place in the world”. The site further reported that Mr Putin was “keen to snap up” a property in the development, described as “Europe’s most exclusive residential development”.

The press office “rubbished” the reports that appeared across the internet and in at least one English language newspaper saying the prime minister was not looking at buying a property in Marbella, Benahavis or anywhere else on the Costa del Sol.

Putin looking at property in Marbella?

Is there any truth to these rumours?

Apparently, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is looking at property in Marbella, specifically in the luxury development of La Zagaleta, Benahavis.

According to reports the ex mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov already owns a property in the exclusive development, just outside Marbella, and has talked Putin into the idea. Website Vanitatis says that Luzhkov describes La Zagaleta as “my place in the world”, where he has planted fruit trees and installed three bee hives which give “a fantastic honey”.

La Zagaleta is a very pretentious…. I mean exclusive development where the residents vote on whether or not to accept new comers, regardless of who they are, how rich they are etc. Some people that have had requests rejected include Julio Iglasias, Shakira and David Beckham, Vanitatis claims. Strangely, Hugh Grant was accepted. Work that one out if you can!

Current residents at La Zagaleta include Iranian Ak Kujala who was indicted in a money laundering case and Sean Woodhall, the British businessman found guilty of fraud in the UK.

So Putin will be in good company!
