Plans submitted to Torremolinos Town Hall for a new €650 million development have been given the go-ahead.
British developers, Intu Properties, placed the winning bid for a 30-hectare site close to the Palacio de Congresos. The intention is to create Andalucia’s largest commercial and leisure centre. The plans include restaurants, shops, a dry ski-slope, and wave-pool amongst other attractions.
The development is expected to boost employment in the area with the creation of 4,000 jobs.
The proposal must now be approved by the Junta de Andalucia which may be the undoing of the project as they have previously rejected five other proposals. However, with an undertaking to introduce new sanitation measures, all parties involved in this plan are more optimistic.
Intu Properties already own 18 shopping centres across the UK, including the Trafford Centre in Manchester. They also have a couple of sites in Spain including Intu Asturias, a regional shopping centre in Asturias, and Puerto Venecia, Zaragoza, Spain’s largest shopping and leisure centre boasting 206,000 sq/m.
